I am 210 down from about 223 in the past few weeks. I am 32 and about 5 foot 5 inches. I really want to maximise my weight loss in the run up to christmas and I feel I have my diet under control and am eating 6 small clean meals a day totalling about 1200 to 1500 calories a day.
I feel a bit lost with my work out plan though. I got a book by Michael Thurmond who advises to stick to long moderate exercise (such as walking briskly on the treadmill or outdoors with no incline) and 3 sessions of weight training a week. The people he works seem to get really great results but it goes against the more typical advice of doing interval training. I think that Thurmond’s idea is that interval training is good for fitness but bad for weight loss as it takes you out of the maximum fat burning zone. I do want to get really fit but I’d really like to focus on fat loss at the moment. Which method do you think is best?

Tae bo works for me. There are programs that focus on cardio as well as others that do core training, etc. The cardio, however, is a great work out and in addition to burning fat, you also build muscle. I’ve also heard that P90X is a great program, though very rigorous.

Interval training puts a lot of pressure on the heart. It is avoided when the person is too much over weigh,.because the excess weight itself puts extra pressure on heart. Once you have lost enough weight by walking/slow jogging you can go for the interval, at a later stage.

Paula what you need to do is cardio and you need to keep your heart rate up to burn fat, The easiest way to do this is interval training. If your doctor says your ok to exercise, then you are fine for this type of cardio.
Try doing 5 days a week of at least 30 min cardio. Its best if you do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. If you have any other questions feel free to email me, i will be glad to help.
