Alright everyone, I am a 15-year-old boy, weighing in at about 180 pounds. Not obese or fat really, but overweight nonetheless. I hate it. It gives me social anxiety and as a result I rarely talk to anyone at school. I’ve always put off losing weight because I was too lazy to get off my fat ass, and whenever I did decide to exercise I would always sweat a excessively so I’d get embarrassed and stop immediately.
Well now the time has come where I HAVE to lose weight because I’m in my school’s marching band carrying the heaviest things on the field (tenor drums) and in my current state (fat belly) the drums wobble around and throw my marching off.
I’ve looked at other places for weight loss advice but those programs and diet tips are geared towards adults, meaning the guides auto-assume that you’re capable of joining a gym, buying healthy foods, etc. etc.
So, I’ve come here for help. I need tips/guides/advice on how to lose weight as a 15-year-old.
Remember: Joining a gym or anything similar is out of the question, I lack the funding and transportation. I can try to convince my mom to buy healthier foods, but those are often more expensive and my mom is somewhat of a penny-pincher.
Also, I am completely against Bulemia/Anorexia/The Like. I won’t do that kind of crap.
So please, tips/links/advice/guides of any kind would be helpful.
Thank You
Well just being and band should help out, but you could also maybe run in your neighborhood or ride a bike. You can also try push ups and crunches. Also if you are really serious about this take it one step at a time. Make one change at a time. Yes I realize that is slow and takes awhile but you have to start some where.

Don’t fill up on every meal, lunch should just be enough food to get you by until dinner, and don’t be afraid of a little hunger.

this is for a teenager-5′4, 132lbs
if i want to lose 12 pounds and keep it off, could i do it in 6 weeks. is this a reasonable amount of time?
also, if i start running now, 2 miles a day, and keep increasing will that help keep weight off?
also i would love any weight loss tips you have (especially on how to stop yourself from snacking)
Thanks so much!! sorry about all the questions:)
Here are some tips that will help you reach your goal!
1. stock up on fruits and vegetables– those have very few calories and DO taste good!
2. Drink water instead of soda or juice.
3. Try to eat whole wheat and potatoes. Those will keep your hunger at bay and not make you crave foods. Oh! But if you DO find yourself craving foods, have a small portion of it, don’t try to avoid it completely, because the craving will only get stronger.
4. make sure to pay attention to portion sizes too. it helps if you portion it out into a bowl that way you don’t find your self eating too much at once. or even portion out your snacks a week in advance so you don’t over eat.
5. you should record what you eat in a journal. calculate the total number of calories you eat per day and determine if there is any junk you can cut out.
6. to lose weight you might want to eat around 1500-2000 calories per day. DO NOT EAT LESS THAN 1000 CALORIES PER DAY!!!!!! Eating less than 1000 calories can actually cause your body to gain weight.
7. Eating healthy low calorie meals with LOTS of exercise will help you lose weight! aerobic exercise such as running, swimming, biking, or gymnastics is a great way to loose weight as well!
8. Get motivated! If ever you find your self not wanting to get up and go exercise, tell your self to get up and do it. Motivate yourself by thinking about how good you will look/feel if you just get up and do it!
9. another motivational tip, once a week, take a day off and reward your self with something special like your favorite restaurant or something sweet like dessert!
10. Don’t be afraid to drink tea, unsweetened tea has 0 calories and is full of antioxidants that will actually help you lose weight. There are also sweeteners such as Truvia that contain 0 calories and are good to add to tea if you like it sweet!
REMEMBER: to lose weight you need to have a good diet AND exercise program having only one will not do you as much good as having both!
this is a very easy plan to follow! as long as you stick to it! and don’t give up!
Good Luck!

My fiancee and I set a date for our wedding and it’s 3 months away. I was on an anti-depressant which caused me to gain 45 pounds. I’m trying to shed as much of it as possible by the wedding. I’m 5′10" and I currently weigh 195. My usual weight is between 150-160 lbs and I’m comfortable with that.
I’m happy with a 20 lb weight loss, but my goal is 30 lbs. I know 10 lbs a month sounds crazy to some, but I’m willing to do the EXTREME.
Does anyone who has been in this situation have any advice? My fiancee says he doesn’t care how I look, but personally, I have been VERY fit all my life, even worked at a gym for 4 years, so I’m unhappy with my current weight and it poses a sadness to my wedding day to not at least be CLOSE to my regular weight and fitness level.
Please, any advice to drop as much weight in a healthy way as possible before the wedding would be appreciated.
I have a membership to a gym, which I use about 2-3 times a week, and I use the Wii Active program in between. I try to eat moderately, but have trouble with eating late at night….any advice to combat that bad habit is appreciated as well.
I lost 10 pounds a month (15 in the first month) by running 6-9 miles (not always consecutively) a day and reducing calories to 1000-1200 a day (however, I did not count any veggies or fruits toward my caloric intake). My diet had very little sugar and fat, mostly whole grains and protein. I did not drink any calories. If you intend to run that much, you’ll need to stretch a lot. I injured myself quite a bit because of this, but it did work! The weight melted off of me. Good luck!

What have you done to lose a significant amount of weight? I went to a nutritionist but, their advice is useless. They recommend you eat stuff that nobody is going to stick to. Flax seeds, tiny servings please! You get too hungry for it to work.
Please no spam.
If you want to lose weight faster, you’ll need to eat less and exercise more. Bottom
line: 1,050 to 1,200 calories and one hour of exercise a day (but be sure not to dip
below this calorie level for safety’s sake). On this type of plan, you can expect to
lose 3-5 pounds the first week.

You see, yesterday started my way to weight loss. I jogged for about a mile or two, and, from experience, does this work? And also, I have started to eat less. and in small quantities.
I am fifteen, 6′1” and 260lbs… Please can you give me some advice, I am really gonna take off 100 lbs this year, and I need some help. Oh, and I’m a boy
Don’t lose any more than 80 pounds. At your height you should be any where from 166 - 202 lbs because that is a healthy weight.
Yes the cardio is really good. Do not run every day instead maybe every other day. Running everyday can mess up your knees (I have friends in the Army that run everyday that have messed up their knees like that). The days between you should do work outs for your arms and stomach.
You can do repetition of 10 or 20 for the arm work outs with weights or push ups.
You can do a repetition of 35 sit ups or crunches.
Now what you are eating is important. By drinking just water you can cut alot of calories (should drink about 8 glasses a day). If I were you I’d cut out alot of dairy. Low fat dairy can actually help you loose weight though. Make sure you are eating vegetables and cutting down on the carbs (don’t cut out just cut down). Also make sure you are getting enough protein. Eat lean meats like chicken, turkey, fish. Also eat more meals a day but make sure they are smaller meals. By eating more meals but are small will help increase your metabolism.
Foods that can help:
Raw Fruits & Vegetables
low fat Dairy products
Any kind of raw nuts
Apples
Fish
Spices
Lean proteins
Resistant starch
You should also take a mulivitamin

I’m about60 pounds overweight and need some diet/excercise advice that works. No lose weight fast schemes. Only problem is I have osteoarthritis in my lower spine and my back kills me when I do strenuous work. Any suggestions?
Try and cut out calories from you daily intake. Like soda for example, switch it to water. Which can easily cut out 100 calories a day. Or switching from 2% to skim milk.
But don’t go under 1200 calories a day as going under is not healthy.
Eat foods high in fiber, they can help you feel full so you don’t eat as much.
Eat slowly, so you give your brain enough time to realize that your full before you over stuff yourself.
Instead of 3 big meals a day cut portions smaller and have maybe 5 small meals a day. (Keeps your metabolism going throughout the day) If you don’t have time for 5 meals, make sure breakfast is your biggest meal, helps jump start the metabolism, and make sure dinner is the smallest.
